The lifting method affects the load capacity of the lifting sling

2025-07-11

When people purchase lifting slings, they generally believe that if the load they are lifting weighs several tons, they should buy lifting belts that weigh several tons. However, this idea is actually incorrect. Why is it incorrect? Many people may not understand. In fact, all the workers involved in the lifting operation will know that lifting heavy objects requires choosing the correct lifting method based on the shape and environment of the object, and it is not fixed. Different lifting methods will directly affect the working load of the lifting belt. Now, let's introduce in detail the relationship between the lifting method and the working load of the lifting slings:

It is known that there are various lifting methods for hoisting an object, such as straight lifting, knot lifting, U-shaped lifting, 45-degree lifting. Different lifting methods have different angle coefficients, and the load-bearing capacity = coefficient of the method x rated load. We set β as the lifting angle. When the lifting strap is lifted vertically, its lifting angle β is 0, and the maximum working load it can reach is equal to the rated load. When the lifting strap is lifted with a knot, the maximum working load is 0.8 times the rated working load. When U-shaped lifting is used, the working load of the lifting strap is twice the rated load, equivalent to the rated load of two lifting straps being lifted together. When 45 degrees < β < 60 degrees, the maximum working load of the lifting strap is the same as the rated load. In fact, there are many lifting methods, as follows: The safe working load = coefficient of the method P × rated load

1.Vertical lifting, working load = (P) 1 × rated load

2. Hoisting sling, working load = (P)0.8 × rated load

3. 45-degree suspension, working load = (P) × 1.4 × rated load

4. U-shaped lifting frame, working load = (P)² × rated load

When choosing lifting slings, we should select the required ultimate working load based on the lifting method coefficient and the nature of the lifted items. The size, shape, weight, usage method and working environment of the lifted items will all affect the correct use of the lifting belts. Through Shengyu®'s introduction, I think everyone has gained a new understanding of the relationship between the lifting method and the working load of the lifting belts. In the future selection of lifting belts, we must consider multiple aspects and safety is not just for ourselves!
