Differences Between Double-hook and Hook-free Ratchet Straps

There are obvious differences in application. The double-hook ratchet strap is fitted with metal hooks at both ends. It can be directly hooked onto pre-set points such as truck compartments or anchor rings for fast operation. It is suitable for regular cargo securing on trucks where reliable anchor points are available. However, hooks carry the risk of unhooking and may scratch goods.

The hook-free type comes without hooks. Its webbing can wrap entirely around goods for bundling, with no restrictions from anchor points. It features greater versatility and is suitable for boxes, large-size cargo, smooth-surfaced goods and lashing inside containers.

However, for the hook-free model, the webbing needs to fully encircle the cargo before being threaded into the ratchet for tensioning. It requires more operating steps with slightly lower efficiency, and care should be taken to prevent abrasion to the webbing edges.

When selecting products, prefer the double-hook version if stable anchor points are available and fast lashing is needed. Go for the hook-free type when suitable anchor points are absent and full-wrap securing is required.
