Repair for Self locking Fault of Hand Winch

Self-locking failure of hand winchs is mostly caused by wear of ratchet and pawl, spring failure or foreign object jamming. Remove all loads first. Disassembly under load is strictly prohibited to ensure operation safety.

First, remove the end cover of the hand winch and clean sediment, iron filings and oil stains from the gaps between the ratchet and pawl. Foreign object jamming will lead to incomplete locking. Inspect the pawl return spring. Replace it with a spring of the same specification if loose or broken, since weak spring tension prevents the pawl from engaging the tooth groove.

Examine the meshing teeth of ratchet and pawl. Rounded or chipped tooth tips cause slipping and self-locking failure. Burrs on slightly worn parts can be polished away, while severely damaged teeth need ratchet and pawl replacement. When assembling, make sure the pawl swings freely without sticking and engages correctly.

For friction-brake models, also inspect the friction pads. Worn or oil-contaminated friction pads will cause brake slipping. Clean off oil stains or replace the friction pads. After assembly, repeatedly test self-locking under no-load condition. Put it into service only after reliable locking is confirmed. If wear is too severe for repair, scrap the unit directly. Lifting operation with defective equipment is strictly prohibited.
